The Uzbek Language Curriculum
Turkish to Uzbek Bridge Course
In this course, students will learn and compare the basics of Uzbek and Turkish Grammar. The goal of this course is to provide students with a basic knowledge of the similarities and differences between Uzbek and Turkish grammar. Students will learn how to use their knowledge in their reading and writing of Uzbek texts.
Accelerated Uzbek Language and Culture Course
The purpose of this course is to enable students to reach an intermediate-high to advanced level of proficiency in speaking and listening, and to acquire comprehensive reading and writing skills with sufficient formal vocabulary in modern Uzbek in a short period of time. In this course, students will learn how to use the three modes of communication in Uzbek: Interpersonal, Interpretive, and Presentational. At the end of the course, students should be able to distinguish the main lexical and grammatical differences between the Turkish and Uzbek languages.
Readings and Discussions in Contemporary Uzbek
This course is highly personalized. The purpose of this course is to enable students to read, comprehend, and communicate professionally using authentic texts based on their interests and needs. Students will continue their language study by linking their language ability to their specialty area. Academic texts with specific terminology in modern Uzbek will be emphasized. Readings and discussions on topics such as literature, education, politics, religion, business, economy, and anthropology will be supplemented by selections of authentic materials on current social issues. Students are expected to read texts critically and submit questions for discussion in class or online.
The Uzbek Language Curriculum Map is aligned with the ACTFL World Languages 21st Century Skills Map and Proficiency Guidelines. Main highlights are: Share Fair, Guest Speaker Visits, Movie Nights, and Cultural Trips.

Professional Language e-Portfolio Workshop
Professional Language e-Portfolio Workshop gives students a hands-on approach to understanding and using technology in their language learning and career planning. The purpose of this workshop is to guide students through the development of an online professional language e-portfolio.
Turkish for Specific Purposes (TSP)
This course prepares Turkish Flagship students for direct university enrollment and an internship in Turkey during their capstone year with a focus on their study area and professional goals. At the end of the course, students will write a paper and prepare a presentation about their research.
