In ordinary life people don’t ask for names, or don’t introduce themselves. Usually they are introduced through someone. This type of inquiry can happen usually in offices or formal conversations, such as telephone interview.

Compare and Contrast
Sometimes if you ask a person’s name informally, they can get mad. Instead of giving a name, word play can be used. This not a common conversation.
