The Apostrophe Sign
In the Uzbek alphabet the apostrophe sign ' is used to denote the Arabic “ayn” or “hamza” signs in Arabic loan words. In contrast to Turkish, it is NOT used after proper names, words denoting nationality, ethnicity, or religion.
After vowels:
